Used to think those composite fence panels were just overpriced plastic junk.

Put some in for a client near the coast six months ago, zero warping or rot so far. Anyone else seeing these hold up better than expected?

Heard about a buddy who put those in at his beach house three years back. Still standing straight, no cracks, just a bit faded from the sun.

But six months is nothing near the ocean, right? That's barely a season of real weather. I'd want to see them after a few years of salt spray and storms. They might look fine now but could get brittle or fade bad.

You're right that six months isn't much of a test. But I wonder if the bigger issue is the type of salt spray. Some beaches get a fine mist almost daily, and others only get hit with heavy spray during big storms. That constant damp salt film, even when it's not storming, might be what really gets into the material over years. So it might depend more on the exact spot on the coast than just the total time.

A "just a bit faded" piece from luna261 actually hits the real issue. That fading is the material giving up color instead of cracking or rotting, which is actually pretty smart if you think about it. But milesbarnes is spot on that the brittle thing might show up later. I've seen plastic deck boards go stiff and snap after five years in direct sun, so I'd watch those panels for getting rigid before I'd call them a win. Six months is still just an extended honeymoon period near salt water.
