Vent: Why did I fight with a manual post hole digger for so long? Finally rented a power auger for a job near Nashville last Tuesday.
For years I swore by the old hand digger method. Thought power tools were just extra cost and hassle. But this 30 hole job for a horse farm was kicking my butt. After three hours I had maybe 8 holes done and my shoulders were screaming. Rented a one man auger from the local equipment yard for 65 bucks. Finished the rest of the holes in under 90 minutes. The auger hit a couple big rocks but it still beat digging around them by hand. Felt like I wasted years of my life doing it the hard way for no good reason. Has anyone else switched over and felt stupid for not doing it sooner?

That line about "feeling stupid for not doing it sooner" really hits home. I fought with a manual digger for years on fence posts and tree planting jobs before I finally caved and rented an auger. Now I look back at all that time spent busting my back and just shake my head. The rental fee is a small price to pay for saving your shoulders and getting the job done in a fraction of the time.

Man, that exact feeling hit me too after my first power auger rental. I remember spending a whole weekend digging fence post holes by hand for a garden project, and by Sunday night I could barely lift my arms. Renting the auger the next time saved me hours and a ton of pain, made the whole thing feel silly in hindsight.
