Warning: stopped trusting my airlock after mold got through on batch 47
I used to just fill my airlock with water and call it good, but last month I found fuzzy stuff floating in a sour I had going for 6 weeks. Now I fill my S-locks with cheap vodka instead, no more issues. Anyone else switch their airlock liquid after a close call?

Did you notice any off flavors with the water before the mold showed up?

Oh man, that fuzzy stuff is the worst - reminds me of the time @emma_jones found a weird colony growing on her airlock gasket and we all had to sanitize everything in sight. I switched to cheap vodka after reading that vodka doesn't evaporate as fast as water, plus it kills anything trying to sneak in. Now I just top off the vodka every couple weeks and haven't had a single infection since, which is way better than scrubbing mold out of a carboy.
