Client offered me $400 flat for a 12 page site redesign, but my buddy says I should've billed hourly at $35
I took the flat fee in Denver two months ago and it ended up taking 38 hours, so I basically made $10 an hour. Do you all quote a flat number or hourly for that first big gig, and did it bite you later?

Did you set a scope in writing before starting or just agree on the number and hope for the best? Curious if the 38 hours came from extra asks the client tossed in after you locked the price.
