Compared charging by the hour vs flat project rate for my first logo design

I landed my first freelance gig last month designing a logo for a local coffee shop in Austin. I was nervous about pricing so I told them I'd do hourly at $25. Ended up spending 14 hours on revisions they kept asking for. Made $350 but felt burned out. Next client I quoted $400 flat for a similar logo and finished in 8 hours. Made more money and they only asked for 2 changes. Hourly just punishes you for being fast. Has anyone else found flat rates work better for creative work?

$400 flat for a logo is cheap though, you left money on the table.

Did you factor in the pain of those endless revisions when you set that hourly rate, or did you learn that lesson the hard way like the rest of us? Flat rate saves your sanity and your bank account.

Did you send them a bill for "thinking time" yet? That's my new favorite line item. Works about as well as charging extra for patience.
