My uncle in Toledo said never take the first offer, and my $6k raise proves it
He's a machinist, not a freelancer. When I landed my first design gig last month I quoted $2,200 for the whole brand package because I was scared of losing it. He asked what the number was and then asked what I would have said if they pushed back. I said $2,800 maybe. He told me to email them a revised scope with the bigger price and a reason. I did it, added a one page style guide as the reason, and they signed at $3,000 without blinking. That extra $800 still feels like a trick I pulled. Anyone else quoting higher on the second try and getting a yes?
