Overheard a college kid at the coffee shop in Portland talking about charging $15 for a full website

He was telling his friend he just wanted to get his foot in the door, and it made me think about my first logo job back in 2015. I did a whole brand package for a local food truck for $50 and a few free tacos. Now I see that undercutting yourself that hard just sets a bad standard for everyone, including you. What's the lowest amount you all took for your first project, and do you regret it?

Honestly, that food truck deal sounds pretty good with the tacos. My first real side job was wiring a garage for a neighbor, and I basically did it for the cost of parts. The regret isn't about the low pay itself, it's that it makes it so much harder to charge a fair rate later.

Ugh, tell me about it. Once you set the "friend price" it's like you're stuck there forever.

Yeah, that first low rate really does lock you in.
