Paying $75 for a contract template was worth every penny
I see people here saying to just copy a free template from the internet for your first gig. I tried that and got burned when a client wanted changes that weren't covered in my scope. I finally paid a lawyer $75 for a basic freelance contract template specific to my service. The section on revision limits alone saved me from doing two extra rounds of unpaid work. Has anyone else found value in paying for paperwork upfront instead of winging it?

Revision limits alone saved me" - that right there is the whole deal. I've seen guys on the road eat three extra days of unpaid changes cause their "contract" was a napkin. A lawyer's $75 beats a pissed off client any day. Copying a free template is like driving with no spare tire. You don't need it till you need it, then you're stuck.

Read somewhere that most small biz lawsuits come from handshake deals, not big corporate stuff.
