Quote low to get the job, then raise for the next one is crap advice - I lost $300 on a logo project doing that.
I priced my first design gig at $150 because everyone says to undercut, but then the client kept asking for changes and I worked 20 hours for $7.50 an hour, has anyone else tried a straight hourly rate from the start?

Did you actually tell them your hourly rate upfront or just quote a flat $150 with no breakdown? I started billing hourly at $25 after my second project went way over and learned most clients behave differently when they know each change costs them real time. Hourly isn't perfect either though - some people will micromanage every step to try and get their money's worth.

Flat $150 with no breakdown. First client asked for "one small change" that turned into a full redesign. Learned that lesson hard. @angelamurphy your hourly rate approach makes sense but i've had clients watch the clock too hard with that method.
