Vent: quoted $50 for a logo and now I'm in over my head
A buddy asked me to make a logo for his landscaping company last week. I said $50 figuring it would take an hour or two. Five revisions later and he wants me to learn vector software I've never used. Now I'm stuck at my desk at midnight trying to figure out how to make a weed whacker not look like a snake. How do you guys figure out what something's actually worth before you say a number?

Dude, same thing happened to me with a lawn sign design. Nightmare lol.

I actually disagree, I think lawn signs are one of the easier things to get right if you keep the design simple. Too many people try to cram text and graphics into a small space and it just looks messy. A clean layout with one bold message usually works fine without much back and forth with the printer.

Lol oh man, the "cram everything in" crowd is the worst. I've seen lawn signs that look like someone just copy-pasted their entire campaign website onto a piece of corrugated plastic. Like bro, nobody's gonna read your 500-word manifesto while they're driving by at 35 mph. Pick one phrase and go with it, it's not that deep. But yeah, if you keep it simple you're golden, the whole process is basically just pick a font and press send.
