A bride's comment turned me around on foam vs. chicken wire

I've spent 3 years swearing by wet foam for everything, thought chicken wire was only for the old school crowd. Then last month at a wedding in Portland, the bride walked by my arrangement table and said the foam pieces felt 'too perfect, like a catalog.' She wasn't being rude, just honest, and it hit me that she wanted something looser and more natural. So I tried a chicken wire base for her centerpieces, let the stems fall at weird angles, and honestly it looked way more alive. The whole time I kept waiting for the flowers to droop or shift, but they held up through 6 hours of dancing. Now I'm slowly swapping my go-to method for smaller jobs, though I still use foam for anything with heavy tropical stems. Has anyone else had a client or customer push them into a technique they'd written off? What did that switch actually cost you in time or supplies?
