Dropped $340 on a floral cooler thermostat and it saved my Mother's Day
Two years ago my old analog thermostat drifted 8 degrees overnight and I lost $600 in hydrangeas the week before Mother's Day. I finally bought a digital controller with an alarm for $340 at a supply house in Sacramento, and it caught a compressor hiccup at 3am last May that would've wiped out every rose in the case. Does anyone else run backup temp alerts, or am I just paranoid after getting burned once?

Seems like a lot of money and worry for something a $12 min max thermometer from the hardware store could mostly handle. Eight degrees of drift doesn't happen overnight out of nowhere, that is a slow slide you would have caught if you were checking the case twice a day like you should be. Most of those compressor hiccups fix themselves in an hour anyway, so a 3am alarm just means you lose sleep over something that would have been fine by morning. At some point you have to ask if the $340 and the stress is really cheaper than just eating the loss once every few years.
