Had a customer swear roses would last longer with vodka in the water

A bride came in last month with her grandma's old trick. Said to add a shot of vodka to the bucket. I figured why not, gave it a shot on some extra stock. The roses looked worse by day 3, droopy and the stems went mushy. She came back to pick up her order and I told her straight up it didn't work. She laughed and said her grandma also believed in putting aspirin in the vase. Has anyone else had clients push weird flower myths that backfired?

hold on, but vodka has sugar in it, right? sugar feeds the bacteria that makes stems rot, so of course they went mushy. honestly i bet the grandma's trick worked back when vodka was basically just water and alcohol, not this flavored syrup stuff they sell now.
