Just realized that foam blocks in big arrangements are actually making things worse

I used to swear by those green foam blocks for event centerpieces, but after a huge wedding order last month in Chicago, half the flowers started drooping by hour three. Turns out the foam was choking the stems and not holding water right. Has anyone else switched to using chicken wire or tape grids instead?

Wait, half the flowers were drooping after only three hours in foam? That's insane for a professional setup. I've been using those blocks for years and never saw them fail that fast, but I guess the cheap stuff really does choke the stems. For big jobs, I always do chicken wire now with a water tube on each stem if it's going to be more than a day. Tape grids work too but you have to be careful not to crush the stems.

Chicken wire saved me too @max_schmidt77, foam just isn't worth the risk on big jobs.

Chicken wire and water tubes saved my hide more times than I can count.
