Lost a $600 wedding order because I refused to dye hydrangeas
Last month a bride in Austin asked me to turn white hydrangeas bright purple to match her bridesmaids. I said no, because that dye job ruins the petals and looks fake. She walked out and took her whole order to a shop across town. I get that custom colors are a thing, but have any of you actually had good results dyeing hydrangeas, or is this just a losing battle every time?

Wait, did she actually see an example of what dyed hydrangeas look like before she made that call, or was she just picturing some perfect Pinterest version? I've seen the dip-dye method where they let the stems soak in colored water overnight, and the petals end up looking blotchy and bruised, like they got left in a puddle of Kool-Aid. The spray-paint route is worse, it just sits on top and flakes off within a day. Honestly, I think you saved yourself a headache and a bad review, because that bride would've blamed you when the color faded before the reception even started.
