My mom always told me to soak roses in warm water, not cold

I argued with her for years, saying cold water keeps them crisp. Then I tried it her way for a Valentine's Day rush and the blooms opened perfectly in 2 hours. Anyone have a different trick for stubborn roses?

Wait, warm water really works that fast? I always used cold too and they'd take forever to open. My grandma swore by adding a tiny bit of sugar to the water, said it fed them.

Grandma's sugar trick sounds like a sweet old myth, wade_dixon. Are we baking cakes or just trying to get some yeast going?

My grandma used to say the sugar was for the yeast's sweet tooth. I tried it once and my bread rose so fast it looked like a science experiment gone wrong.
