Stop telling new florists to buy roses by the bunch count, stem size is what actually matters
I keep seeing folks tell beginners to just grab 24 roses for a centerpiece and call it done. That advice burned me on a wedding in Sacramento last June, when I ordered 24 roses that were only 40cm and they looked tiny and lost in a 14 inch urn. The grower had 50cm and 60cm stems from the same farm that week, same price per stem. Longer stems mean bigger heads, more vase life, and way less waste on tall arrangements. Now I ask for the stem length first and the bunch count second. Anyone else had a client notice the flower size before the color?

Stem length first and the bunch count second" is the whole game right there. I've watched 40cm roses disappear into a tall vase more times than I can count, and the sad part is the grower had 60cm sitting right there for the same money. Bigger heads, longer vase life, and you're not doubling up stems just to fill space. Clients clock the size way before the color, every single time.
