Vent: That old lady at the farmers market changed how I do roses forever
I used to think roses just needed a good cut and clean water, end of story. But last June at the downtown farmers market, this older florist who had a booth next to mine, she saw me tossing wilted roses and called me out. She said 'honey, you gotta peel off the outer guard petals and give them a warm water soak for 20 minutes before arranging.' I laughed it off at first, but I was desperate since I had 4 dozen roses that looked sad. Tried her trick that night and they perked up like magic, lasted a full 6 days longer than usual. Now I do that step every time and even tell my customers about it. Has anyone else got a weird trick from a stranger that totally flipped your usual method?

Gotta love unsolicited advice that actually works.

Wait unsolicited advice that actually works? That's a thing?

Are you sure about that? I gotta respectfully disagree with @jana509 and the whole idea that unsolicited advice ever works. Most of the time it’s someone assuming they know your situation better than you do, which is pretty annoying. The few times I’ve gotten “helpful” advice out of nowhere, it was usually mixed in with a bunch of stuff I’d already tried or didn’t apply at all. It’s like people forget that you’re not asking for a reason. So yeah, I’d say it’s rare enough to not count as a real thing.
