Saw a huge difference in my listing photos after switching to a prime lens last month
Honestly I always thought my photos were good enough with the kit lens my camera came with. But last month I finally rented a 35mm prime for a day just to test it out on a house in Austin. The before and after was insane - like the rooms looked twice as big and way more open. The colors were sharper too without me having to mess with editing for an hour. I ended up buying the lens after that one rental and now my listing photos get way more traction. The main difference was the prime lens let in more light so I didn't need a flash for darker rooms. Has anyone else tried switching their gear and seen a real jump in client interest?

Oh wait, that's actually not quite right about the light thing. Prime lenses do let in more light but it's because of the wider aperture, not the lens type itself. A 35mm f/1.8 lets in way more light than a kit lens at f/3.5 or f/5.6. I learned that the hard way when I bought a 50mm f/1.8 and realized I had to stop down to f/2.8 to get the whole room sharp. Still worth it though. The sharpness difference is real and clients definitely notice cleaner photos.

Ha, tell me about it - I bought a 50mm f/1.8 thinking I'd be a photography god and just ended up with a bunch of blurry noses and sharp ears, @iris_barnes87.

Dude, just step back a bit and stop down to f/2.8. Works every time.
