I finally found a legit bookkeeping service after getting burned twice
I kept seeing ads for Bench and thought it was too good to be true, especially after paying a random freelancer $300 who messed up my Q4 numbers. Then a fellow freelancer in my co-working space in Austin showed me her clean quarterly reports using a service called Bookkeeper360. I gave them a try 6 months ago with my small editing business making around $4k a month. They actually caught a duplicate expense I missed and saved me about $200 in taxes. Has anyone else had good luck with a bookkeeping service that isn't just a scammy upsell?

The Austin coworking scene is small world, I used to think all bookkeepers were sketchy but this actually makes sense.

That "caught a duplicate expense" part really hit home for me. I had the same thing happen with a different service called Pilot - they found a double-charged software subscription I'd been paying for 4 months. It wasn't a ton of money but it was the principle of someone actually looking out for my business.

Huh, Pilot's been around a while, yeah? So you're saying they actually caught it before you sent them the receipts or after? I'm trying to figure out if these services are worth it for just the double-checking or if they're really digging in and finding stuff on their own. Four months of a double charge is annoying but not the end of the world. Did Pilot give you any other specific examples of stuff they found, or was it mostly just that one thing?
