PSA: I was putting all my freelance income into one checking account for 5 years
I just finished my taxes and my accountant, a guy named Mark in Phoenix, asked me why my business account had so many personal charges. I told him it was my only account. He looked at me and said, 'You're mixing everything. How do you even know what you made?' That was the moment. I had to go back and sort a full year of bank statements, trying to guess which $12 charge was for a client's software and which was my lunch. It took me two whole weekends. I was basically working in the dark on my real profit. Now I'm opening a separate business account this week. Has anyone else dug themselves out of a mess like this, and what system did you set up to keep it clean?

Honestly, that sounds like a huge overreaction to me.

Been there, done that, ruby_bell47. When my neighbor called the cops over a kid's ball in her yard, I learned to just take a breath first. Ask yourself if it will matter in a week. Most of the time, a quick chat fixes things before they blow up.

Ngl, "overreaction" was my first thought too until I had a neighbor like that.
