Shoutout to my accountant for suggesting I pay quarterly taxes from a separate checking account.
I set up a new account at my local credit union last January and automatically transferred 30% of every payment there, which completely eliminated that panicked scramble every April and actually left me with a small refund this year.

Honestly the real pro move is keeping that separate account at a totally different bank. Out of sight out of mind. Makes it way harder to "borrow" from it when you're short on rent.

That "panicked scramble every April" is exactly why my tax guy told me to do the same thing. It really does take the stress out.

My buddy used to wait until the last weekend to file and he was a total wreck. He finally switched to doing it early and said it was like a huge weight lifted. Now he actually gets his refund sooner and can plan around the money. Makes you wonder why more people don't just get it over with.

Yeah I started doing that a couple years back. Just have a set percent go straight to savings from each check, so tax time is basically just moving money around. Takes all the guesswork out.
