Showerthought: My savings account finally hit $10k then my laptop died
I've been freelancing for about 2 years from my apartment in Austin, and last week my laptop just stopped turning on out of nowhere. Had to drop $1,200 on a new one from my emergency fund, which hurt way more than I expected. Anyone else have a big milestone get wrecked by an unexpected expense right after?

$10k is a solid milestone, hate it got cut short like that. That laptop better last five years minimum to make up for the timing.

Maybe she got a killer deal on a refurb though that changes the math.

Not sure I totally agree honestly. $10k is great but cutting the savings short for a laptop just feels like a different kind of loss to me. Like you traded a big chunk of your safety net for a piece of tech that'll lose value fast. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I'd rather deal with a busted laptop for a few more months than lose that momentum. Hope it works out but I've seen too many people buy nice stuff and still end up paying emergency bills later.
