Back when I just tossed everything on a shelf and called it done...

Ten years ago my garage was just a dumping ground. I had some old metal shelves from my dad that were rusting out, and I would just pile stuff on them. Bikes, bins of Christmas decorations, tools all mixed together... took me 20 minutes to find a 10mm socket. Then about 5 years ago I bit the bullet and spent $400 on a proper wall track system with hooks and bins. Now every single thing has a spot. I can grab my snow shovel in 10 seconds flat. What made you guys finally switch from chaos to actual organization?

Oh man, your garage sounds like a dream now! I totally get the chaos thing. I had a similar moment with my kitchen junk drawer - it was a black hole of random screws, takeout menus, and that one weird lid that never fit anything. I finally bought a little divider tray after my third failed attempt to find a bottle opener during a party. Now I can at least pretend I have my life together!

Well @angelamurphy, that weird lid probably goes to an appliance you sold in 2017.

Really feel you on that junk drawer thing, @angelamurphy. Mine was where old batteries went to die, and I once pulled out a dried up highlighter from 2012. The divider tray was a game changer for me too, but I still have a dedicated "mystery objects" spot because I can't bear to throw anything out. At least now I can find the takeout menus without a full excavation.
