Hit 50 rubbermaid bins in my garage last weekend and it finally clicked

I was reorganizing last Saturday and counted 50 of those clear storage bins stacked up. Most of them haven't been opened in over a year. Has anyone else realized they're just hoarding air in plastic tubs?

Man idk if it's that deep. People act like having extra storage bins is some kind of crisis but it's literally just plastic boxes. I have like 30 in my basement and half of them are holiday decorations I use once a year. The other half is random cables, old gaming stuff, and camping gear I actually pull out. Unless your bins are full of actual trash or expired food who really cares? It's not like you're hurting anyone by having some extra containers around. The whole "declutter your life or you're a failure" thing feels overhyped to me.

Think about the landfill part of it though. Those plastic bins last forever and most recycling places won't even take them cause of the mixed materials. So if everyone's basement is full of bins that's a lot of plastic that's eventually gonna end up somewhere not great. Not saying throw them out right now but maybe we should be honest about how much of this stuff is designed to be basically immortal waste.

But isn't there a difference between having a few bins of stuff you actually use and having a whole basement full of boxes you haven't opened in years? I think the clutter mindset is more about the mental weight of knowing you're storing things you might not even remember owning. It's not about judging people for having holiday decorations, it's about whether all that stuff is actually making your life better or just taking up space.
