Just figured out pegboard hooks after owning them for 2 years

I was reorganizing my garage last weekend and kept getting annoyed that my screwdrivers would fall off the pegboard. I thought those hooks just sucked. But then my neighbor Bill came over to borrow my socket set and saw me struggling. He pointed out I had the hooks in upside down. The little upturned end was supposed to face up not down. I felt pretty dumb honestly. After flipping them around everything stayed put. Shelves and cabinets get all the attention but pegboard setup details matter more than people talk about. Has anyone else made that same dumb mistake with pegboard hardware?

You ever read one of those random articles online about workshop hacks? I saw one a while back that said the direction of pegboard hooks depends on gravity and the angle of whatever's hanging. Screwdrivers and pliers with handles need the hook pointing up to catch the handle's weight, but smaller stuff like scissors or wrenches might work better facing down if they have a hole in the end. I tried it both ways in my garage and now I just flip everything until it sticks, no more guessing. Bill sounds like a good neighbor to have, honestly.

Oh man that's wild, I never would've thought the direction mattered that much lol. So does that mean all the little hooks with the bendy ends are directional or just certain ones?

Yeah no kidding! I had a buddy who tried organizing his workbench with those hooks and he got so frustrated he just threw all his tools in a bucket for a week. He said the little bendy ones with the rubber tips worked best for drill bits and small files if you pointed them down so the tool wouldn't slide off. But for heavier stuff like his pipe wrenches he had to point them up or they'd just fall right off the hook.
