My uncle was right about those slatwall panels after all
Tbh, I fought my uncle for like two years over slatwall. He kept saying the cheap pegboard I had up would sag after a season or two. I figured he was just being a know-it-all like always. But last winter my heavy leaf blower pulled the whole pegboard section down off the wall one night around 2am. Went to his place the next day, saw his slatwall setup with my own eyes, and yeah, it was solid. He even had a quote from the local hardware store for the panels and rails, came out to about $140 total. I put it up last month and now I can hang my shovels, rakes, and even a couple heavy tool bags without worrying. Anyone else have a relative give you garage advice you wish you'd listened to sooner?

Yeah, "know-it-all like always" is a perfect way to put it. My dad spent years telling me to stop using those plastic drywall anchors for anything heavier than a picture frame. I thought I was being smart by using the big toggle bolts for my shelf, but I used them on drywall that was already kind of loose. Shelf came down three weeks later, took a chunk of the wall with it. The stuff they tell us about the basics usually comes from them making the same mistakes back in the day.

Yeah, "know-it-all like always" pretty much describes every older guy who's been fixing stuff since before we were born, and they're usually right about the boring stuff.

But don't you think sometimes they just get stuck on doing things the old hard way and miss the easier modern solutions?
