pro tip: put pegboards on the ceiling for long tool storage
I was at a neighbor's place last weekend and saw he had a pegboard mounted to his garage ceiling above the workbench. He hangs long levels, PVC pipes, and even a ladder up there with bungee cords. Total game changer for me since my walls are full of shelving. I tried it with a 2x4 grid panel from Home Depot for $18 and it freed up half my floor space. Anyone else tried ceiling storage like this?

Watched a guy at the hardware store try this with just magnets and nearly dropped a saw on his foot. Gravity always wins in a garage. Put a thin plywood lip on the front edge of mine after the first week. Cost me five bucks and saved me from hunting down rogue tools under the car.

Two 2x4 panels up there myself now and I'm wondering though - have you had any issues with stuff falling off when you're pulling other things down? I had a level swing loose on me last week and damn near took out my table saw.

Did you see that article in Fine Woodworking a few months back about French cleats? I rigged up a cleat system for all my hand tools after reading that, and nothing's budged since. The level swinging loose sounds like a nightmare - I keep a bungee cord stretched across the front of my overhead panel just in case. Heard a guy on a podcast say he lost a chisel that way and it stuck in his miter saw fence. Ever think about adding a lip or a guard rail to the front edge?
