PSA: Don't buy those cheap plastic wall panels from Amazon for your garage

I spent $150 on those interlocking plastic wall panels that were supposed to hold up my tools and they cracked within two weeks when I hung a medium weight shovel on them. Has anyone found a budget-friendly wall panel that actually holds weight without breaking the bank?

Did you try the pegboard from those big box stores? I went cheap and got some of those plastic panels from a different brand on Amazon and they bowed out like crazy when I hung a hammer on them. My neighbor had the same problem and he switched to this metal mesh panel from a home improvement store. It holds his heavy stuff fine but it rusted a bit after a wet summer because he didn't paint it. I think the plastic stuff is just not made for anything real, it's all for looks in a man cave or something.

Take that metal mesh stuff and hit it with a coat of rustoleum before you hang anything on it. @oliver_baker49 already mentioned the rust problem and that's the fix nobody talks about. Also check if your wall has metal studs or wood ones. I mounted mine straight into drywall anchors once and the whole thing pulled out when I leaned a shovel against it. Had to patch the holes and start over with proper lag bolts into the studs. The material matters less than what's behind it.

Maybe try heavy duty pegboard from a hardware store instead, works way better.
