That pegboard advice from my uncle was dead wrong

My uncle swore by those cheap plastic pegboard bins for small parts. Said they'd save me hours. I spent $60 on a set from Home Depot and within 3 months half the bins cracked or fell off the hooks. Ended up replacing them with metal bins from a local hardware store in Austin for $45 total. The metal ones have held up perfectly for over a year now. Anybody else find that the budget stuff just doesn't last in a garage that gets hot?

Did you ever read that old Popular Mechanics article about garage storage and heat? They did a test and cheap plastic stuff starts warping at like 115 degrees. Most garages in the summer hit that easy. The metal bins are definitely the way to go, they don't care about the temp swings. Uncle meant well but he probably had a cool basement setup, not a real garage.

You know, @taylor.brooke, that article rings a bell. My husband tried to store some old vinyl records out in our garage one summer and they came out looking like potato chips. We found a stack of those clear plastic bins from the discount store completely buckled at the corners. He was real disappointed because he had that whole collection sorted by genre. Ended up buying metal ones from the hardware store down the street and they have held up fine through three summers now. The heat really does a number on stuff you would not expect to be so sensitive.
