Vent: tried those magnetic tool bars from Home Depot but they couldn't hold my heavy wrenches

I picked up a 36 inch magnetic bar last weekend thinking it'd be perfect for my rafter storage in the garage. All my 1 inch combination wrenches fell off after two days, just clattered onto the hood of my car. Learned the hard way that those magnets are really only good for screwdrivers and light stuff. Anyone find a better wall system for keeping socket sets organized without drilling a hundred holes?

Tried the same thing with a 48 inch bar from Lowes and my Craftsman wrenches dropped like flies. Ended up switching to a pegboard setup with those locking hooks from Harbor Freight. They grip the tools way better than any magnetic bar I've used, even for my big adjustable wrenches. Just make sure to get the heavy duty hooks that have a little plastic clip to hold the tool in place. Your mileage may vary but pegboard with the right hooks has held up for me for two years now without anything falling.

Heck yeah, the plastic clip thing is a game changer. I tried those basic pegboard hooks first and my wrenches would just swing off and hit the floor if I bumped the board. The locking ones from Harbor Freight are actually solid for the price. I will say though, make sure you get the heavy duty version of those clips too. The cheap little plastic ones can snap if you're cramming a big wrench on there. I've had my pegboard setup for about three years and the only time something fell was when I didn't push the clip down all the way. It's worth the extra minute to double check each hook after you hang stuff.
