Learned about registered agent service fees the hard way after a trip to the Dallas county clerk
I spent $300 on a fancy registered agent in Dallas last year before finding out my state allows me to just list a PO box for $20 annually, has anyone else overpaid for this stuff without checking the local rules first?

My friend Paul got talked into a $500 "premium" registered agent package for his little landscaping business in Austin. He figured it was just what you had to do since the sales guy made it sound like the law. Turns out he could have used his home address for basically nothing, his wife found the form online after he complained about the bill. The company kept sending him "annual compliance" emails that were just upsells for more stuff he didn't need. He still gets mad about it every time someone mentions registered agents, says he could have bought a new mower with that money.

Wait a registered agent is optional in Texas? Paul should sue for bad LLC advice.
