Shoutout to the lady at the county clerk's office who saved my LLC filing

I was about to submit my formation docs online last Thursday and got totally stuck on the purpose clause wording. The clerk at the counter in Nashville just said 'keep it simple, say general business activities.' She even pointed out that I was using the wrong NAICS code on line 6. That 2 minute chat saved me from a rejection and a $25 refiling fee. Has anyone else had a random office worker teach them something they should have known?

Did you do the online filing or go in person? I ask because I had a similar thing happen but it was with the health department for a food permit. The person on the phone spent like 10 minutes walking me through the whole inspection checklist. She actually told me which things the inspector would ding me on and which ones they barely look at. I had no idea they would just tell you that stuff if you ask. But here's the thing, that same lady the next week was totally different and acted like she had never talked to me before. I think some of these office workers just have good days where they want to help and other days they're just trying to get to lunch. So yeah, that clerk in Nashville probably saved you a headache and 25 bucks, which is way better than my experience where I got the help but then it felt like I imagined the whole conversation the next time I called.

What state are you in? Some county clerks are way more hands-on than others, and I've always wondered if that kind of help is a southern thing or just pure luck.

Go to your county clerk about three weeks before you need the thing and ask them what's the fastest way to get it done, not just the normal way. That saved me a ton of time when I had to rush through a title transfer last year.
