That $400 registered agent service I signed up for turned out to be a total ripoff
I paid $400 for a registered agent service that promised to scan and upload all my state mail the same day. Last month they sat on a tax notice for two weeks and I almost missed a filing deadline. To be fair, a friend of mine uses the same company and says it's saved him from missing three lawsuits. So is it worth the money or should I just use my home address and save the cash? Anyone else deal with this tradeoff?

Oh man, this hits close to home. Totally feel your pain with that last-minute tax notice scare. Same thing happened to me with a cheaper service I signed up for (never again). They promised same-day scanning but would sit on things for a week at a time, which is basically useless when you have actual deadlines. The whole "friend had a good experience" thing is tricky too - I know someone who swears by theirs, but I think it really depends on the specific company and maybe even which office you're dealing with. To be honest, I stopped using registered agents entirely after that mess. I just use my home address now but set up a PO box for business stuff (keeping the apartment manager off my back). It's way cheaper and I can check it myself whenever I want. The risk of missing something serious is real though, so I get why some people still pay up.
