Wasted $150 on a fancy registered agent service I didn't need

When I first incorporated my LLC, I signed up for a big name registered agent service that charged $150 a year. I thought I had to use them because that's what everyone on YouTube said. Turns out, I could have just used myself as the registered agent for free since I have a physical address in Texas. I could have saved that money and put it towards my business insurance instead. Does anyone else get tricked into spending on services they don't actually require?

Did your YouTube research mention that using your personal address as the registered agent puts it on public record for anyone to look up? I ask because I went the same route initially but switched to a cheaper service after a process server showed up at my house over a dispute with a vendor. Curious if that weighed into your thinking at all.

Funny you say that, I actually think having your address public is overblown. People act like it's some huge privacy risk, but most small businesses already have their address listed on Google and social media anyway. A process server showing up sounds scary, but if you're running things right, you shouldn't have disputes that get that far in the first place.
