Why does nobody talk about asking for half up front before I did it
Back in 2019 I took a $1,200 web design job from a restaurant in Austin with zero deposit and spent 3 weeks building their whole site before they ghosted me, but now I ask for 50% before I even open my laptop and my last 7 clients all paid without a single complaint, so has anyone else seen this weird resistance to deposits fade over the years?

Oh man, that first job stings to even read about. I had something similar happen with a local bakery back in 2017, they owed me $800 and I chased them for months before giving up. It taught me the same lesson though, and honestly I think more people just got burned like us and finally wised up. The fact that your last 7 clients paid upfront without fuss says a lot about how the market has shifted. Good for you for sticking with it, that deposit is your safety net and you earned it.

The bakery story hits hard, I feel that in my bones. It took getting burned once to learn that deposit lesson, and it's wild how many of us had to learn it the hard way.
