I was dead wrong about those coworking space memberships

About 8 months ago my buddy kept pushing me to join this spot downtown for $150 a month and I laughed at him. Told him my dining table was fine, why pay for a desk I can get for free you know? Then I hit a wall around February where I just couldn't focus at home anymore, too many distractions with laundry and dishes staring at me. Tried a day pass at his place and finished a whole project in 3 hours that I'd been dragging out for a week. Has anyone else found their home setup just stops working after a certain point?

$150 a month adds up to $1,800 a year for a desk you can set up in any coffee shop for the price of a latte. I've been working from my kitchen counter for four years now and never had this magical wall everyone talks about, sounds more like an excuse to spend money than a real problem.

That whole thing about being stuck in the same space day after day... it really messes with your head more than people realize. There's this weird thing where your brain starts associating your home with stress once you blur the lines too much between work and rest. I've noticed it with a bunch of friends too, they all hit a wall around the 3 to 5 month mark of working from home and nothing feels right anymore. A change of scenery just forces your brain to switch gears and actually pay attention again, even if it's just a different chair and some background noise. The laundry and dishes become a whole mental weight you don't even notice until you step away from them. Sometimes you just need a place where the only thing you're supposed to do is work.

Ha! My neighbor spent six months on his sofa before realizing he needed a real desk.
