Just realized my 'quiet hours' were actually making me lonely...

I always thought setting strict quiet hours from 9 to 3 was the secret to focus. But last week I read this study from a psychology blog that said working alone for over 4 hours straight can actually increase feelings of isolation by a lot. So I started taking a 15 minute break at noon to just call a friend or walk outside. Now my afternoons feel way less heavy and I actually get more done. Has anyone else tried breaking up their quiet time like this?

Honestly, I went through the same thing. I just set a timer for 45 minutes, then walk around the block for 10, and it's helped a ton.

Buddy of mine tried something similar, except he swapped the walk for pacing around his kitchen while making coffee. Said he ended up drinking like six cups a day and couldn't sleep for a week. Had to switch back to just staring out the window for his breaks instead. But yeah, the timer trick is solid as long as you don't replace one bad habit with caffeine jitters.

@jamesc79 nailed it with the block walk. Tried something similar but I do 25 minutes of focus then a 5 minute stretch break. Keeps me from zoning out completely. Actually started setting my timer on vibrate so I don't scare myself when it goes off. Works way better than standing up and forgetting what I was doing.
